Obi is a global real-time aggregator that compares millions of pricing and pick-up (ETA) data points providing consumers and businesses with actionable data. Obi reports blend data-driven insights, charts, written narrative, and market analysis. We publish research on topics including pricing trends, ride availability, wait times, consumer sentiment, and regional rideshare dynamics.
Obi is seeking a high-caliber editor / writer who can help craft our annual flagship report with potential to oversee additional reports. This is unbylined writing.
Role: Editor / Writer – Data-Driven Research Reports (Contract)
Project Timeline
- Start: March/April 2026
- Delivery Window: June 2026 (Tech Week in NYC)
- First Project: Obi Global Rideshare Market Report
This is expected to be a major, high-visibility publication for Obi.
Responsibilities:
- Report Writing + Editing
- Write, edit, and refine report sections based on data findings and internal analysis
- Turn raw data outputs into compelling narratives and executive-level insights
- Improve clarity, structure, flow, and consistency across the entire report
- Ensure the report is professional, credible, and publication-ready
- Sourcing contributors / editing for specific sections where appropriate
- Technical Writing + Data Interpretation
- Understand and interpret charts, graphs, and analytical findings
- Translate statistical findings into clear language without oversimplifying
- Help identify the “so what?” behind the data and frame key takeaways
- Data Storytelling + Visualization Suggestions
You will actively contribute to improving how the data is presented and help with new data set overlays.
- What charts should exist (even if they don’t yet)
- How to simplify complex visuals
- What comparisons would make the story stronger
- Where additional data layers would add credibility and insight (e.g. weather, congestion data, holiday schedules, major events, fuel pricing, tourism, economic and other datasets)
- Tone, Voice, and Brand Consistency
- Maintain a consistent Obi voice: authoritative, modern, data-first, but readable
- Ensure all sections align stylistically and logically
Required Skills
Must-Have
- Strong experience as a technical writer or research editor
- Ability to write long-form reports
- Excellent grammar, clarity, structure, and editorial judgment
- Comfort working with quantitative material (charts, graphs, trend lines, statistical takeaways)
- Ability to explain data findings clearly and confidently
- Ability to propose better visualizations and storytelling angles
Strongly Preferred
- Experience writing market intelligence reports / consulting reports / academic-style or policy reports / mobility/transportation/urban planning research / fintech, SaaS, or analytics research
- Familiarity with rideshare or transportation markets (Uber/Lyft/Bolt/etc.) a bonus.
Project Scope & Commitment
- Contract-based project (April–May)
- Estimated 80 to 160 hours depending on scope
- Potential for recurring work on future Obi reports
