BTS just kicked off their long-awaited 2026 world tour in the USA — their first full-group run since before the pandemic — and the impact is being felt far beyond concert venues. From hotel bookings in Kaohsiung spiking 6,700% to Tampa rideshare prices jumping a third in a single night, the BTS Effect is real, measurable, and worth talking about.

Obi tracked Uber and Lyft pricing in Tampa, Florida, around the group’s three-night run at Raymond James Stadium (April 25, 26, and 28), and the numbers are striking.

The numbers: a 33% price spike, overnight

Using real-time rideshare pricing data collected once per minute throughout the concert window, we found that the average price per mile jumped from $5.33 on non-concert days to $7.09 on BTS concert nights — a 33% increase.

That’s not just a post-show spike. The elevated pricing held throughout the day on concert dates, and post-show nighttime hours (8 PM to 4 AM) saw the sharpest spikes. Wait times also climbed: the average ETA across the concert weekend rose from 7 minutes 43 seconds to 8 minutes 35 seconds, a nearly one-minute increase even at midday when demand is typically lowest.

This isn’t the first time BTS has moved the market

The BTS rideshare effect has been documented before. After BTS played two nights at Chicago’s Soldier Field in May 2019 as part of their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour, data analyst Todd Schneider found that post-concert surge pricing reached as high as 2.5x — higher than any NFL Bears game. 

The scale of 2026 is a different order of magnitude. BTS’s return tour spans 34 cities across Asia, North America, South America, Australia, and Europe. Within 48 hours of the January tour announcement alone, hotel searches for Seoul jumped 155% and Busan hit 2,375%, according to Hotels.com. The concert tourism effect rippled through flights, ground transport, and local businesses — the kind of demand shock that cities rarely plan for.

What it means if you’re going to a show

If you have BTS tickets this summer, plan ahead. Based on our Tampa data:

• Book rides 30–60 minutes before the show ends. Prices peak in the immediate post-show window and can take 30+ minutes to normalize.
• Lyft and Uber behave differently. On the first two Tampa nights, Lyft’s midday surge was steeper; Uber’s hit hardest post-midnight. Comparing real-time pricing in Obi at the moment you need a ride can save real money.
• The day before matters too. We observed a significant PPM spike around 5 PM on April 24 — the day before concerts began — likely driven by fans arriving early in the city.
• Consider alternatives. Designated pickup zones, event shuttles, and walking a few blocks from the venue can place you outside the surge radius entirely.

The bigger picture

BTS’s 2026 tour is projected to generate over $1 billion for HYBE (the South Korean entertainment company that manages BTS) in combined ticket and merchandise revenue — potentially the most lucrative K-pop tour ever. The economic footprint extends well beyond the venue. In host cities, hotels fill up, restaurants see surges, and yes, rideshare drivers have one of their best nights of the year.

For platforms like Uber and Lyft, BTS-style demand events are a feature, not a bug. Surge pricing is designed exactly for moments like this. For fans, it’s a reminder that getting to and from the show is its own logistical challenge — one worth planning for before the lights go down.
